My involvement with the Russian people of Voronezh, Russia started in 1998 when I hosted participants in exchange programs with our Sister City. With each guest, I gained a deeper appreciation for the experience. These new women in my life urged me to come experience their city and their lives, to meet with other women and exchange thoughts, and to reflect their world through my cameras. In September 2000, I traveled with a Citizens’ Exchange group from Charlotte to Voronezh, Russia, 600 km south of Moscow in the Chernozem (Black Soil) Region. This collection of photographs are by no means a comprehensive view of Modern Russia. They reflect the path of one person on a short sojourn to experience a community of friends on the other side of the globe.
