Ludmila is a force to be reckoned with. Her Citizen's Center is part of a network that assists in safe passage. Not only that - many vendors at this station can feed their families from what they sell because of Ludmila's organizing efforts. In America, she led everyone in song and commanded a room. In Rossosh, I was at her mercy - lunch was served in the Center's dinning hall, and then I was whisked into her car and taken to this remarkable arena where she scurried "under the radar", moving people in and out of different queues. Because of her, I was allowed to photograph without restrictions: "I must go work - you go photograph! These are my people....you're safe here." she said.
